PAKISTAN REFINERY LIMITED

Who We Are?
Pakistan Refinery Limited (PRL) is a fine example of collaboration between Pakistani and foreign investors. PRL was incorporated as public limited company in May 1960 and is quoted on Karachi and Lahore stock exchanges. The Company is engaged in the refining of crude oil.

When Did We Start?
On November 28, 1959 an agreement was signed which called for the construction and operation of oil refinery at Korangi, Karachi by the joint participation of Pakistani investors and four major oil companies.

On February 6, 1962, the then Minister of Fuel, Power and Natural Resources, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto laid down the foundation stone. By July, the silhouette of the Refinery could be seen. In addition to this construction, a tank farm was constructed at Keamari to handle the crude oil imports and product exports.

On October 2, 1962 the plant came in to operation and on November 14, Field Marshall Mohammad Ayub Khan, President of Pakistan, performed the inauguration of the Refinery.

In 1964 the annual processing capacity of plant was enhanced from 1.5 millions tons to 2.1 million tons of crude throughput.
